The Salomon S/Pro 120 is a high-performance boot designed for demanding strong intermediate-level to expert skiers. With a 120 flex rating it demands decent technique to get the best out of the precision on offer, but (in short) there's still plenty of comfort available for long days of piste bashing.
Indeed, the surprisingly easy step-in, combined with the Coreframe 360, cuff, shell and liner customisation and pre-shaped Pro liner add up to a package that feels more friendly than the stiffness and technical prowess of the boot might imply. There's a huge range of adjustment and customisation available here for very little effort, such as the Custom Shell HD process, which aims to bring fast personalisation to the shell in just 10 minutes. The thinner shell also theoretically improves sensitivity and power thanks to simply being closer to your foot, increasing direct transmission both ways - simple in theory, but requiring complex manufacturing to pull it off successfully, as it is here.
Salomon have also taken onboard criticism of earlier models which some felt were unduly restrictive in the toe-box, with the newest iteration featuring an 'elastic toe box', which does indeed tackle the potential problem.
Of course, the My Customfit 3D liner is fully heat-moldable as you'd expect at this level. In use, the Salomon S/Pro 120 delivers what it says on the tin, the lightweight and stiff shell aiding poise and responsiveness, the Sense Amplifier and Sense Strap technologies coming together to give confidence and precision in deep power or groomers alike. Overall an excellent option for the aggressive skier seeking a light but comfortable boot that can be customised to the perfect fit...
