Originally launched back in 2017/2018, the Dalbello Lupo AX120 is now in its 2022 livery, and the good news is that the balance between touring and freeride remains as strong as it ever was.
Combining uphill efficiency and lighter weight with downhill performance is always a complicated act to pull off, especially when the downhill performance is so demanding, but the Dalbello Lupo AX120 pulls it off.
The boot remains mid volume, at a shade under 100mm at the forefoot. and the three piece cabrio design not only allows a little more room, but also is crucial to the uphill performance. The rear switch flips easily between locked and unlocked, and a removable tongue really amps up the ankle mobility for skinning up steeper sections. That's also emphasised with the three buckle setup, reducing faff when replacing that tongue unit, as well as locking the heel in neatly on the downhill. The thermoformable IF Liner with memory effect is good quality with lots of ankle mobility, and the Carbon-reinforced Polyamide rear cuff reduces weight and bulk considerably over non-carbon options, as well as adding a certain tech appeal.
As you might expect on such a crossover boot, bindings are well-catered for, with a GripWalk Binding, as well as tech inserts for extra versatility - in short, they'll fit pretty much anything that's GripWalk friendly. In downhill mode you get the full benefit of that cabrio build, with good control and precision, even on hard pistes, and the uphill is buoyed by the low weight and freedom of movement.
