Volkl have spared no expense and thrown a whole load of Bavarian technology at these on piste blasters. But do they have the quality to match the price tag?

Amazingly responsive and playful with a great pop at the end of the turn.
A bit on the pricey for many skiers budget

The Volkl Deacon 74 2020/21 remains largely unchanged from last year, so our 2019/20 review of the Volkl Deacon 74, below, still stands.

The Volkl Deacon 74s are the perfect skis for hard charging on-piste advanced/expert skiers, who are happy to spend the day carving up the groomers. The great thing about these bad boys is you don't need to put too much effort in to get a whole load of response out of them.

The list of technology that has gone into the Deacon 74 is long and impressive: a wood core with full sidewall construction, a titanium layer, a multi folded 3D glass layer, the UVO anti-vibration widget developed in the race department, and a binding system that has 20% wider construction to allow more pressure transference to the edges. All in all, it makes for a quality pair of skis.

The best aspect of the Deacon 74 is that even with all of their responsiveness, they do not seem to punish bad technique. Whether you are taking on short quick turns on a steep slope or blasting long powerful carved turns the ski never seems to get away from you - perfect for an advanced skier who is looking to build confidence.

Also, we love the funky look of these skis, but if you're put off by the retro graphics with pink flashes, there is a version available in black too.

A great choice if you're looking for a ski that won't judge your technique, is amazingly responsive and will keep up with you all day as you tear down the pistes.
