The Salomon S/Force Bold 2020/21 remains largely unchanged from last year, so our 2019/20 review of the Salomon S/Force Bold, below, still stands.
The Salomon S/Force Bold is the perfect match for good skiers who are looking for top-notch stability and speed. It is the top of the S/Force range and combines the power and precision of a pure piste performance ski with the versatility of a wider all-mountain model.
The construction is very much geared towards power and responsiveness on the piste, featuring a poplar wood core sandwiched between two titanium sheets. The Edge Amplifier ski-plate system also helps to transfer energy straight to the edges, giving outstanding edge hold. Plus, the Crossover Tip of woven carbon fibre is lighter for easy turn initiation and enhances the stability in variable terrain and snow conditions.
The 177cm length has a 16m radius, which is ideal for juicing out mid-radius turns. The slightly wider waist does make the ski a little slower onto an edge compared to your standard 72mm waisted piste skis, but the 15% tip rocker profile helps here at the start of the turn. We also found that the S/Force Bold is very stable and keeps good snow contact throughout the turn even in slushy or cruddy spring snow.
If you can afford it and are looking for the best of the best on-piste ski that will let you ski hard all day long, then the Salomon S/Force Bold lives up to its name. Use the force and go boldly indeed.
