The award-winning Texapore Downshell is Jack Wolfskin's flagship ski jacket, featuring a fully waterproof and windproof Texapore Air inner fabric (5,000mm HH / >15,000g MVTR) and a high quality down filling.
It is insulated with 800-fill power white goose down in a baffled construction which eliminates cold spots; the chamber walls also have tiny perforations, allowing a continuous exchange of air between individual chambers. This optimises the down's loft to significantly improve the temperature management and comfort of the jacket.
The Downshell also comes packed with useful features. You get an outer shell of tough, hard wearing Polyester fabric with a soft touch finish, Recco reflector, detachable powder skirt, venting zips, two large zipped hand pockets, a ski pass pocket, zipped internal pocket with audio system compatibility, internal goggle stash pocket with cloth wipe, snow cuffs in the sleeves, adjustable hem and fully-adjustable hood. Phew...!
But it's the attention to detail that we liked as much as all the whistles and bells; little things like a system for storing the ends of the powder skirt so they don't flap around show that a lot of thought has gone into the Downshell.
Once you've got it on you feel as snug as you might expect, but the jacket is light and loose enough to allow a good range of movement at the same time as it inspires confidence that you'll remain warm on the coldest of chairlifts.
Sure, it's not cheap, but this is a jacket that anyone expecting to find themselves in very cold conditions this winter should definitely check out.
