The Mammut Stoney HS Pants are a solid all round performer - a ski/snowboard pant that's equally at home on a sunny Wengen piste as on a hardcore bad weather multi-day ski tour. Unlike some shells, the microfleece Schoeller Keprotec lining of the Stoney's can be worn without a base layer on fast and/or warmer days or layered up for full winter warmth and protection.
The Stoneys come in two leg lengths (thank goodness) - standard and long. Why more companies don't do this we do not know, but it's a winner for us tall chaps who like the bottom of the ski pant to actually cover your boots and not sit mid shin. This reduces that awful knee stretching rub when touring and more importantly keeps you looking smart all day long.
Features-wise, the Stoney's handwarmer pockets are in the right place (dropped slightly down from the belt line to as to facilitate easy access) and the two bellow constructed "map pockets" have enough space in them to store gloves and a hat without becoming annoying on a long skin track. The good long thigh vents have a light mesh in them to stop your underwear from showing and to keep out unwanted snow if you happen to take a face plant at the powder party.
All in all, a real solid performer with excellent all-round potential and appeal.
