Patagonia's Powslayer Bib is aimed at committed freeriders and backcountry types who are looking for ski pants that will perform as well when climbing up the mountains as skiing down them.
With that in mind the Powslayer is constructed from lightweight but highly durable, three-layer Gore-Tex Pro fabric with a DWR finish.
The pants' low-profile bib has two small zip pockets, a drop-seat configuration with full side zips and two-way sliders for venting, a zip fly and built-in belt loops at the waist so you can remove the bib on hot climbs.
Beneath this the pants themselves offer a really relaxed, loose fit with articulated hips and knees. This means layering up is not a problem - which is good as you will need to given the Powslayers' lightweight construction.
There are thigh vents for hikes and warm spring days, and two thigh and one rear pockets (all zipped), large scuff pads and internal gaiters, as well as an embedded Recco reflector.
We really liked the Powslayer even though not normally being that big a fan of bib pants; the loose, comfortable fit and well thought out design means they're really comfortable whether riding or hiking.
The durable build of the Powslayer Bib means that you'll get a pair of ski pants that should see out several seasons, which goes a long way towards justifying the high price.
