The resort of Tignes opened for the season on the last day of September! It’s the first French resort to officially open, marking the beginning of the 2017/18 season. The leaves might only just be turning, but the Grande Motte Glacier doesn't care much about when winter is meant to begin. With an elevation of over 3,600 metres you’re pretty much guaranteed to see snow, and luckily for us the Alps were treated to some snow showers earlier in September which have left the glacier looking even more refreshed and ready for visitors. Lifts open at 8:30am and you can hop on the funicular and be at the top of the glacier in only 7 minutes.
And let's not forget that France isn't alone. You can also get some early glacier skiing under your belt in areas such as Solden and Hintertux in Austria, as well as Zermatt in Switzerland. So if you're feeling the pull already, the snow is waiting for you.
Time to head to the mountains, winter is definitely coming!
