Himos is one of the world's newest ski centres, established in 1984. It offers one of the best mix of trails in Finland, with virtually all the lifts offering a choice of easy to difficult descents of up to 950m length. Snowboarding is also excellent and there's 100% snow making. The ski season is also quite long, starting in November and running until the first of May.
Mountain
Himos consists of 2 ski areas; West Himos (Lansi-Himos) and North-Himos (Pohjois Himos) with 17 slopes and 11 lifts. Lift ticket is valid in both areas and a Courtesy Shuttle Service (Skibuss) will transport you between areas during weekends and holiday periods. Thanks to their effective and modern snowmaking equipment which covers all slopes, the ski season is exceptionally long, usually November to May. For nordic skiers, Himos has 20km of cross-country tracks, 4km of which are floodlit. The tracks are connected to public tracks in Middle Finland thus giving over 100km of cross-country tracks. Himos is an official Finnish Freestyle training centre and the top freestylists can be seen here practicing on the jumps and training in the moguls.
Families
Children under 7 years ski free on all slopes so long as they are wearing a helmet.
Eating Out
There are several restaurants located in the Main Lodges so whether you are just stopping for a coffee and a danish, a steaming bowl of soup, pizza or a steak you should find something to suit. In springtime there's no better place than the sun terrace to relax over lunch and top up your suntan.
Boarding
200 rental boards and reputedly the best park in Finland. Himos has two halfpipes and a snowboarding street with challenging jumps.
