A versatile all-mountain ski that would suit skiers who love high-speed turns on groomed runs but want to get into the bumps and powder occasionally too. We review the Salomon Quartz after extensive trials during our 2014 on snow ski test in Kuhtai, Austria.

The Salomon Quartz is a classic all-mountain ski that's aimed at expert female skiers who need versatility to tackle everything the 'frontside' of the mountain has to offer.

The Quartz was a bit heavier in the fresh snow than we expected but we really enjoyed it on the whole. In big turns we found it super smooth, although it had a tendency to sink a little in deeper snow. All the same, we loved its responsiveness and think the Quartz will serve all-mountain skiers well.

The relatively narrow sidecut at 83mm under the boot ensures excellent edge hold with a wide, rockered, tip for ease of turning and extra powder float.

Overall, if you're into rapid turns on-piste and long, fast carving turns on groomed slopes, coupled with the ability to deal with more variable terrain and conditions then the Quartz is a serious contender for a one-ski quiver.
