Salomon's range of QST skis covers the entire freeride spectrum, starting off at 85mm under foot with five models ending up at 118mm wide. The 92mm version that we have tested here, provides a nice balance for all-mountain, entry level freeride skis that can handle the piste as well as steeps.
We are really familiar with the QST 92, but when each of our team members rides in excess of 30 pairs of skis during five days, the comparison to others always highlights the skis characteristics acutely. In this case, we are pleased to say that they perform to our expectations.
Words that pop out from the notebook include, 'poopy', 'fun', 'zippy' and 'good edge hold'. They are easy to handle on both groomed piste and in fairly deep powder snow conditions. This makes them an ideal choice for a skier looking to get into the world of freeride, all-mountain skiing and/or a seasonaire who wants great value skis to cover all bases.
Where they might disappoint is with a more aggressive freerider who travels at higher speeds - they lack the solid stability you might find in some of the more beefed up, higher priced skis on the market. But they know their limitations and they aren't trying to pretend to be something they are not.
A great all round freeride ski for a recreational to advanced skier at a price that is highly accessible and kind on the pocket.
