The Salomon Q 105 is a freeride ski which means it has to try to be all things to all men; we found it almost achieved this, but not quite.
Adding to its versatility, its lightweight honeycomb structure means you can put touring bindings on it should you wish; sure, it's not a touring ski but it is lighter than many other freeride skis.
This lightness means that although it's okay on piste it definitely comes into its own in the powdery stuff. So yes, there's a compromise - but there always is with any ski that tries to do everything.
On the whole we really liked the Q 105, and if you spend more time looking for lines away from the pistes than you do hammering down the groomers then it's definitely worth checking out.
