The Aira ST uses the same shape as the Aira CF but with a softer, more forgiving structure. The ST used a softer basalt technology than the C/FX technology used in other models, and a lightweight wood core. The ski is therefore more forgiving but also less stable at higher speeds, making it a great option for less aggressive recreational skiers.
The semi-sandwich construction also adds to the soft and forgiving nature of the ski, with easy turn initiation. It is comprised of an ABS sidewall underfoot, with monocoque construction in the tips and tails. The ST model also has both a pulse pad and cork tip inlay to help dampen vibrations or chatter at higher speeds and in variable terrain.
The Aira ST also has the all terrain rocker 2.0 profile, with a rocker in the tip for easy turn initiation and a smaller tail rocker for added manoeuvrability. The slight rise in the tip and tail also gives added control in variable snow off piste, and the camber of the ski gives full length contact for stability and edge hold on piste.
Since the Aira ST is lacking some of the technology in the pricier models, it does not suit being skied too aggressively, but it doesn't need to be.
The Salomon Aira 76 ST is a great, and inexpensive investment for any recreational skier looking to gain confidence and have fun. It is a super playful and forgiving ski, and at that price you can't go wrong, a real bargain!
