The Sentra series from Nordica is a new women's range of skis targeted at on-piste skiers and there are models for all abilities. The S4 is aimed at the kind of skier who can perform parallel turns on red runs, but wants to start improving technique and really carving up the mountain.
With a 72mm waist, they are not really designed for deeper snow conditions, so the all mountain label applies really to the frontside of the hill only - groomed slopes and moguls.
What they do have is genuine versatility in these areas, with the ability to hold a decent edge grip on hard-pack snow and suck up bumpy terrain with ease. Although they feel really easy to steer, more advanced skiers won't dismiss the performance and this is what makes them ideal for a skier who wants to improve over the next few years.
At an RRP of £380 with bindings, they would make a great choice for a first ski purchase. The balsawood core, that's stuck between two sheets of metal, combines to make that lightweight, yet high-performing, feel and there's a layer of carbon in there too, just to add further strength without adding on the kilos.
A lighter weight, less aggressive female skier will get the most out of these skis - apparently the word Sentra means sexy, perfect and beautiful and even though aesthetically they don't quite match up to their label, underneath it all, where it all counts, we think they do.
