The MX 84 from Kästle sits in the middle of the MX range. MX stands for Mountain Cross and are aimed at the advanced skier who really wants to ride the whole mountain - and ride the whole mountain they certainly do.
First off, the look. Kästle's classic design flows seamlessly throughout the entire range and gives them a unique look that is instantly recognisable and never seems to fade out of fashion - good news if you want to keep them for a few years. But how do they perform? Well, that's where things get really interesting.
Billed for advanced skiers, the MX 84 are about as solid as all mountain skis can get. Throw them into 20cms of fresh powder snow, moguls, groomed slopes, icy black runs or a gentle blue run and they do the job, every time, without fail - that is of course providing you back that up with decent skills, but they won't let you down.
Their stability on groomed slopes matches that of many piste specific skis, solid and powerful when ridden at speed, they give so much back to the skier. They also love hard snow conditions and grip fantastically well on ice, one of the best edge grips out there.
Off-piste, their 84mm waist and supreme flex absorbs all undulations in your path and manages variables and deeper snow fantastically well for a ski of this width, skipping through the bumps with relative ease. They would perform even better with a tiny tip rocker, though this would also take away the on-piste performance a little.
