Faction has never been content with producing skis that just perform well and the look of the ride is just as important. So the best-selling Prodigy gets a cosmetic update for the new season with a moody, dappled, granite-effect motif courtesy of resident artists Kay Flockhart and Rosalind Monks.
Under the hood there has also been some tinkering, with the Prodigy dropping from a 98mm waist to 96mm as part of a gentle reshaping of the ski. That, a traditional camber underfoot and a dual-radius sidecut makes the Prodigy a little more usable on groomed slopes, if you really must take them there!
But as you might expect from the Verbier-based outfit, Faction's skis are about getting away from the groomed stuff for a few adventures beyond the marked runs.
Tip and tail rocker helps with float in fresh snow, while the micro-cap construction over a poplar/ash wood core keeps the Prodigy light and responsive.
There's enough pop that you could use these for the occasional park run, but they're more in place jibbing off a few natural kickers if air time is really your thing. At around 2kg per ski the Prodigy is also light enough that you could pair it with touring bindings for short hikes to hunt out some fresh lines.
The Prodigy is more versatile than it's ever been, especially with a women-specific version now available. While it doesn't necessarily have the 'wow factor' when ridden in one particular terrain, it's very enjoyable all over the mountain and very decent for its price.
