The Elan Amphibio 18 Ti2 features Elan Truline technology which takes the idea of the asymmetrical side-cut and develops it by placing more titanium and structural material over the inside edges of the skis. The idea being that the outside ski will then be able to withhold more power and pressure while tracking a longer radius, whilst the inside ski will need less pressure to enable it to track a slightly tighter carve. The new FusionX bindings also provide a smooth, free-flex perfomance.
On snow this does take a little getting used to, obviously you need to check you have them on the right feet first! The Amphibio 18 performs better at long radius turns than it does when trying to do short slalom type turns on a steep slope. The ride is however very smooth, with the construction and set-up providing excellent damping over the bumps and rough snow.
At only 72mm under foot, it is difficult to include in the all-mountain category, but the skis do have the feel and forgiving qualities of an all-mountain ski, ideal if you want to keep your options open.
