Besides being a bit of a mouthful the Omeglass S Fluid X is, according to Dynastar, designed as a slalom-type ski for ambitious intermediates keen to improve their performance on-piste and happy to push themselves and their skis a bit – it’s a new product for the 2015/16 season, in fact.
The ski was a tad skittery at speed, although it felt very in control when skiing less frantically, and encouraged us to sling the turns together. That said, we skied on the shorter of the two length options available to us on during testing (163) and felt that had we been on the 173cm model it would have provided more stability at speed.
Edge hold was equally positive in both long and short radius turns and the Omeglass felt admirably lively and responsive, although this meant a slight trade-off in terms of smoothness, although it certainly doesn’t give a rough ride.
It’s worth pointing out that at £465 with bindings the Omeglass is a good value ski, and whilst the looks are not too inspiring (but what piste ski is that handsome?) it’s certainly worth checking out, especially if you’re not intent on hammering it like some latter day Ted Ligety.
The Dynastar Omeglass would suit someone looking to raise their groomed slope carving game and have ambitions to move onto a full blown race ski at some time in the future.
