No sparrow of the skiing world, the 2019/2020 Black Pearl follows on from last year's award-winning model, introducing a simple, understated yet sophisticated and tasteful dark grey top sheet.
Intermediate level skiers will appreciate the lack of surprises and easy-going dependability, with a rocker-camber-rocker profile which allows easy entry and exit to turns, and great grip throughout. The camber profile also makes for an easy rotating ski, inspiring confidence on cat tracks and busy pistes.
Carbon flip core construction enhances strength, with minimal weight increase. This helps the Black Pearl to really grip an edge without the tired legs you might get with a stiffer core construction, proving that carbon fibre can offer the best of both worlds.
Although the Black Pearl 78 can dabble in off piste it's much more suited to general resort riding with a few brief forays through powder stashes off the side - the narrow waist width really doesn't provide much float so you'll have to work it quite hard even then.
Overall, a confidence inspiring solid intermediate mid-range ski that makes a great piste focussed addition to the Black Pearl family. The more powder hungry should look towards the wider waist widths in the Black Pearl 88 and 98.
