There are two main criteria to check for when testing base layers - Fit and Functionality.
I'm traditionally an average medium fit and the medium sized bottom half of the Drangsnes base layer set was perfect. Leg length is spot on and it has a nice snug fit all the way up the leg with a large seamless elastic waist-band with good tension. There's also good stretch in the merino wool allowing for unrestricted movement. The only thing to note was the occasional need to 'hoik' them back up around the waist from time to time when standing after sitting, but this was minimal.
The half zip top half gives a nice fit around the chest but goes a little loose towards the waist. The arms are cut long to give good coverage, ending at the knuckles with arms out-stretched and the high zip-neck feels comfortable when zipped to the top without getting in the way of the chin.
The Dragsnes base layer set performs very well with the 100% Australian merino wool regulating temperature during activities throughout cool mornings, warmer afternoons and cooler evenings.
The merino is medium weight at 230g/m2 which works well as a next-to-skin base-layer on colder days or a single layer on slightly warmer days. The set feels nice and soft with no itchiness and the wool helps to draw moisture away from the skin, while the antibacterial properties help keep any smells under control. The flatlock seams also help avoid any uncomfortable bumps and rubs.
Overall we found this set to be effective at regulating body temperature, providing good warmth in colder conditions when combined with a mid and outer layer. The price is at the top end for an all-merino base layer, but they look smart, are comfy and do the job.
