The RS1, or 'Race Series 1' goggles from Panda Optics grabbed our attention as soon as we took them out of the box. We tested the Black model, which sports an 'ocean blue' mirrored lens, as opposed to the bright silver of the RS1 - Red. (Confusing, we know.) The lens is frameless which gives the goggles a modern, streamlined look that we're big fans of.
They are also polarised to reduce reflected glare which makes a big difference when you're out on the slopes on a sunny day, and they come with an additional yellow lens for those poor visibility days.
One of the main features of the RS1 is the 'pull off, snap on' lens change technology, which allows you to swap lenses at the drop of a hat with eight small but surprisingly strong magnets which anchor the lenses to the frames. We found this to be a great system and makes swapping super easy. The spare lens does feel a little large and cumbersome (and vulnerable) to take up the mountain in case of sudden weather changes, but if you like to ski with a pack, you should have no problem chucking it in.
Visibility is great with a huge field of vision, but this does go hand in hand with the goggles themselves being on the large side. We didn't have any problem at all with comfort but bear this in mind if you favour smaller models.
3-layer dual density foam with a fleece finish also ensures a smooth fit to the face and cuts out any potential irritation, and ventilation is also excellent, with no complaints from us in regards to fogging.
The RS1 also fits well with a helmet and has an easy-adjust headband with grip-strips on the inside to help stop the goggles popping off and swinging around.
Overall, a comfortable, fully featured and attractive pair of goggles.
