The Doodlebug uses In-Mold construction which fuses a tough polycarbonate outer shell with an impact-absorbing foam liner. This allows air vents to be sculpted into the helmet reducing the overall weight and providing much needed ventilation.
The sharpie doodle design and gloss finish coupled with the rich, vibrant green of our helmet was appealing to our toddler and added to the ‘cute-factor’ of a toddler in full ski wear.
The fit of the helmet was snug but not tight, which is exactly what you want from a safety and comfort perspective. Our toddler, who can be quite sensitive to uncomfortable headwear, was happy to wear the Doodlebug for the duration of his slope antics – unlike his ski boots! The padded ear flaps helped to keep him warm and he wasn’t at all bothered by the chin strap, thanks to the well designed padding under the chin which stopped the bare strap agitating his skin. If your child suffers from allergies or sensitive skin as ours does it’s worth noting that the helmet lining and ear padding also contain an allergic and antibacterial treatment.
Overall the helmet, and indeed the Lucky Bums brand, which is currently little known in the UK are both well worth a look if you’re hoping to make that first leap onto the slopes with your kids. Lucky Bums products are available through littleskiers.co.uk.
