K2's new model, the Anthem 74, is a reasonably priced piste ski, perfect for strong female skiers. The Anthem is a directional ski with a speed rocker profile, a slight rise in the tip and flat tails. It has a sintered base and medium to stiff flex, perfect for advanced piste skiers.
This ski uses the impressive BIOkonic technology in its construction, something from the K2 Alliance - a group of dedicated female athletes, spokespeople and R&D testers. It's a holistic approach to designing skis that matches the shape, flex profile and material needs of a female specific ski that certainly seems to pay off in the Anthem.
A fir/aspen BIOkonic core places denser materials at the edges of the ski where they have the most impact on performance. The women's specific ski also features correct flex technology, bringing balance and control to every turn.
We found that the Anthems performed well on firm and even icy groomers, ripping through short, snappy turns with ease. At just 74 underfoot they go from edge to edge like a dream and the full sidewall makes for strong edge hold. The ski loves to be pushed and will have no trouble keeping up with you as you tear down the mountain, but they were less impressive in longer, more leisurely turns.
The Anthem 74 comes with the ER3 10 Compact Quickclick binding, and at £475 for the package it is decent value for money, and with a low-key monochrome design, they look stylish out in the snow too.
A great purchase for competent female skiers wanting to do some aggressive resort skiing.
