Vail resorts in Lake Tahoe, California, are to open early thanks to snow storms and snow-making facilities. Heavenly Mountain Resort and Northstar California Resort had originally planned to open on 16 November, and Kirkwood Mountain Resort was scheduled to open on 21 November.- Details

Instead, Heavenly and Northstar will open their pistes to skiers and snowboarders today, and Kirkwood will open on Friday.
