For decades there has been talk of a lift linking the resorts of Saalbach, Hinterglemm and Leogang in Salzburgerland with Fieberbrunn in Tirol. This talk has now become reality - from December 2015 the Austrian provinces of Tirol and Salzburgerland will be joined together by the new high-speed ‘Tirol S’ gondola.
The connection between the four resorts is being made by a 10-seat gondola from Reckmoos South in Fieberbrunn up to the mountain station at Reiterkogel at an altitude of 1819m.
A new 3.5km long red run has been created to take skiers and boarders from the top of Reiterkogel.
With 270km of piste, served by 70 lifts, the ‘TirolS’ has helped to create one of the largest and most varied ski areas in Austria.
Toni Niederwieser, from Bergbahnen Fieberbrunn, explained how construction of the new gondola and ski slope was carried out with the least possible interference with nature, “This connection is very important to us both ecologically and economically and was the next logical step in the evolution of both ski resorts”.
