The recent flutters have got many areas looking much healthier after an unusually warm summer period, and have given the early openers such as Swiss resorts, Zermatt and Saas-Fee, Austria's Hintertux and Solden, and the Italian resort of Passo dello Stelvio a welcomed boost.
Snow lovers were celebrating all over the Alps this weekend from Obergurgl-Hochgurgl to Val Thorens, with whiteout views and #snowisfalling popping up all over the place.
Below, the scene in Hintertux on Sunday.
Hintertux has the best skiing conditions so far with a snow depth of 45cm on the glacier and 20km of skiable runs open. They are also reporting deeper snow of 60cm on the glaciers of Zermatt and Saas Fee – Zermatt has opened 14km of piste, so you can already get a view of the Matterhorn from skis this season. Solden has 26cm of snow up the mountain and has managed to open a piste already, well before the winter season is due to begin in November. Passo dello Stelvio has an impressive 120cm of snow at the top of the pass and has operating runs.
We're certainly hoping it's a sign of things to come. It's got us itching to break out the skis and head to the mountains to escape the British drizzle.
Vin chaud anyone?
