Sponsored by North Face and Snow + Rock, the lecture will offer practical advice, applicable to a range of snow sports.
The interactive lecture covers key concepts such as snowpack development and avalanche formation in a clear, comprehensible way. It illustrates how to think ‘terrain’ not ‘snow’ when route planning, shows you safe travel techniques, and helps you recognise signs of unstable snow. You’ll also learn about avalanche airbag systems.
Whether you are an experienced ski mountaineer, keen alpine skier or heading off piste for the first time, this lecture is a great introduction to an important subject and an opportunity to refresh – or perhaps rethink – your back-country knowledge in time for the coming winter season’s adventures. There are also prizes from North Face to be won.
The lectures will be delivered by James Morland, a Canadian Avalanche Association Level 2 professional with more than 15 years experience of avalanche related work. Proceeds from the lectures will go to Disability Snowsport UK.
Tickets are priced £7. For more information, dates and venues of the lectures and to buy tickets, visit www.skiclub.co.uk/tickets
