From the far side of La Clusaz, near Manigod village you take a path around the mountainside, deep into the pine forest to the sundeck of the old converted barn that is now the Marie a Nore chalet refuge.
Your reward for this adventurous arrival will be a raging outdoor fire and a fantastic view across the valley, with the twinkling lights of tiny hamlets dwarfed by high peaks. Aperitifs are served around the fire, before you go inside for a traditional Savoyard dinner.
For those unwilling, or unable after the free flowing wine, to snowshoe back out, there is a mezzanine which serves as a large communal sleeping area, in the style of a refuge or mountain hut.
