Here is our Top Ten Sochi Winter Olympic events to watch this February on TV.

They’re in date and UK time order. For our UK readers, the best place to catch all the action is on BBC 2, with live coverage every day from 07:00 GMT, and for those at work, an hour-long highlights programme @ 19:00 daily.  BBC 2 plan to show 200 live hours and the BBC will back that up with a further 650 hours of live action via six HD streams. So you’ll be able to watch online, but just don’t let the boss catch you.

Snowboarding Women's Slopestyle

Can Jenny Jones win the first ever gold medal in this event? Jenny has been a top athlete in slopestyle for many years now, with three X-Games gold medals in a row between 2009 and 2010 to show for her skills.
Jenny finished second in a first world cup event this season, but then suffered concussion in training, so has been taking it easy before Sochi.  Could Jenny be team GB’s first medallist of the games? We hope so.

Read our interview with Jenny Jones.

Men's downhill

The Men’s downhill is the equivalent to the 100 metres of the summer games. It’s all about who can risk all, without blowing out. The perennial fan’s favourite will be Bode Miller; the American could well surprise a few by scooping the gold, but we feel he’s more likely to end up fighting with the safety netting.
Norwegian Aksel Lund Svindal is the bookies favourite, but we’re edging our bet and going for the 2011 World champion, Canadian Erik Guay.

Freestyle skiing Men's halfpipe Final

No one has been able to get close to Shaun White when it comes to Olympic halfpipe gold, and unless someone can pull off a miracle, then our money is on Shaun White to make it 3 golds in a row.

Thursday 13 February Qualifying @ 6:15 final @ 9:30

Freestyle skiing Men's slopestyle

Team GB’s James Woods - or Woodsy, as he likes to be known - is in with a real shout here. James has won five consecutive Brits and is no stranger to the podium in world cup events either, with a gold in 2013. James was first taken really seriously when he started to land the triple-cork, and we wish him all the best in Sochi.

Friday 14 February  Final heat @16:50

Skeleton

Lizzy Yarnold has already won three World Cup races this season, but it’s not just Lizzy that has a chance here, as in Winterberg in January, the British Team had 3 women inside the top 10. So similar to  the London Olympics, when team GB won lots of sitting down events - such as cycling, sailing and rowing – it seems we’ve an even better chance when we lie down!

Sunday 16 February starts 9:15 Final @ 9.45

Snowboarding Women's Snowboard Cross

Zoe Gillings was very unlucky in Whistler when she was taken out in the semis, ending up 8th overall.

This time she is hoping to make the final, and if she can stay on her feet, she has a very good chance. Zoe  is actually GB’s most successful winter sports athlete, with a record seven world cup podiums.

Thursday 20 February 1/8final @ 9:30 Final @ 10:39

Men's ski cross

No hope of a GB medal here, but this is arguably the must watch event of the games. In men’s ski cross there are some audacious overtaking moves, and a real chance of some major high-speed wipeouts. This is most people’s favourite event of the winter Olympics, and even gets non-skiers gather around the TV to watch these nutters going at it.

Thursday 20 February Final @ 13:30

Women's Curling

What can we say other than, “Come on Scotland!” What with Scotland voting for independence, this could be the last time anyone south of the border has a chance of a medal in this event.

Thursday 20 February Qualifying @14:30 Final @ 17.30

Ski Women's Halfpipe

Another good chance of a gold here, with Rowan Cheshire becoming the first British female to take a halfpipe gold at the recent World Cup event in Calgary. The 18 year old from Cheshire will be up against it, but has a real belief after that Calgary win in January. Let’s hope by February 20th, Team GB will have racked up a few golds which Rowan can then add to.

Ice Hockey Men's Gold Medal Match

Fingers crossed, it will be Russia v USA in the final, although Canada and the Czech Republic may have something to say about that. We at Snow Magazine would love to see a re-run of the so called ‘Miracle on Ice’ from the 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid - where the USA amateur team beat the all-conquering USSR team, who had won almost every world championship and Olympics since 1954. There’s nothing quite like a real East V West battle on the ice to close out the Winter games.
